Candice,

You're welcome and thank you for the props. I'm sorry that you've had to find your way here, but glad you found the SCD. I hope it gives you the kind of hope it has me. My attitude has changed in fundamental ways because I can look at life differently now that I can do something about my Crohn's that my doctors could not. As a patient, you can feel like you are at the mercy of the system, but this diet can make you feel in control again - powerful stuff. I'm not a terribly emotional guy, but I'm sometimes surprised by the strength of my feelings about my new place in the world. For 20+ years, I've just been waiting for my next hospitalization, but now I think I can do without that - it's difficult to understate the importance or impact this has on a person. I've gone from a person with an incurable disease to a person living a normal life.

Listen to your body, trust yourself and see a doctor if you need to, but remember that you are the boss and you don't have to drink their kool-aid.

Best of luck to you.

Paul,
I am in the same place only this was my first one. And I just started the diet a short time ago. I can't take the stress of the GI and his push for medication. So I am healing myself. You are so brave. thank you for this, it meant a lot, not sure why but I was just really touched.
I hope this finds you in good health.

Brenda,

You are very brave...

You give me too much credit. I posted it because it provided an outlet for me and I knew others would have similar experiences.

At least you have the courage to confront them...

I have to admit that I'm hoping to never see another GI in my life and I've lost my zeal to try to convert a doctor. I have talked to a few people face to face about the SCD, but they lost interest when I got to the "no potatoes or bread" part. The only success I've had in helping people is through this blog - people who want to try something different and are willing to make some changes in their habits.

One former doctor I had in Houston...

I think this is typical of modern medicine. It tends to be reactive as apposed to proactive.

I would be very interested in more information on how you tolerated the visicol.

The fallout from the prep was that for many days after the procedure I felt weak, tired, cold and had a lot of D. I cannot lay the blame solely at the feet of the bisacodyl or the half-lytely. Maybe it was just from the pill or just the liquid or both. Either way, I felt crappy for about a week after the 'scope.

Did you every try cholestyramine resin...

I have never heard of cholestyramine resin and after looking it up, I can tell you with certainty that I've never had it.

I hope your procedures go well.

Ken,

Time to heal is different for everyone as we are all special cases. You may be faster or slower than the 2 years. The only thing that I could add is that it seems that the younger people can have a tendency to heal quicker than the more mature individual.

I know patience can be difficult, but hang in there - you will be rewarded for your patience.

Cheers,

You are very brave to put up your vlog. I identified very much with the emotional travails of dealing with the medical profession. At least you have the courage to confront them and you are helping us all. I would much rather avoid them, but I too am facing some testing in the near future. One former doctor I had in Houston who was a respected expert on Crohn's treated the disease symtomatically and only ordered new tests when symptoms worsened. Barium x-rays, so I have been told show the friability(sp?)of the gut as wispy edges and can be indicative of disease activity. This was from an radiologist who specialized in IBD. I would be very interested in more information on how you tolerated the visicol. Did you every try cholestyramine resin when your symptoms were still active? Continued good health, Paul.

How long does it usually take for the colitis to completely heal? I started the diet about 3 months ago. Some set backs because of inadvertent illegals, but overall improved with the diet. Still have ups and downs though. I guess this will be a gradual process of hopefully continued improvement. I read in BTVC that I should expect 2 years at minimum.
