I know you miss chocolate ice cream. You know that I cannot replace that, but I can offer you this rich, creamy treat. And hey, it’s good for you.
Ingredients:
4 cups rich yoghurt
3/4 cups honey
1 lb frozen strawberries, approximately 4 cups
optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Using your blender, mix yoghurt, honey and optional vanilla extract.
2. Slowly add frozen strawberries.
3. Blend until well combined, then put in freezer.
Notes:
Freezing will kill the bacterial culture. It will still taste good, but will lack the probiotic action.
It’s important to use frozen berries if you want a thicker, colder consistency.
Try other berries as well.
Yields about 9 cups.
this looks wonderful. but 9 cups? i have a question. i make
a smoothie dinner almost every night. 4 cups yogurt
1/2 banana and spoonful of cooked blueberries, a little honey. then i
drink the whole thing. at once. do you think 4 cups
of scd yogurt is too much for a day’s supply? i have read
that too much can cause die off.. but what is too much? i can not
pinpoint this cause/effect in my health.
April,
Between the yoghurt, the berries and the addition of air from blending, it makes about 9 cups. This recipe is intended to have leftovers. I don’t exceed 2 cups in any given day. Four cups at one sitting would make me ill.
Elaine recommends a maximum of 3 cups per day for adults. See this page for more info: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/yoghurt_amount.htm .

Just found this recipe as I recently started the SCD diet. For the yogurt – is that ANY yogurt? Or is it specifically the SCD make at home yogurt?
Christine,
Specifically SCD, home made yogurt.
