A recent article from Scientific American magazine tells about a researcher who is studying gut flora and speculates that it relates to health and disease:
“In the past few years, scientists have linked obesity to the relative abundance of two dominant intestinal bacterial phyla and found that dysfunctional intestinal bacteria are associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease and some types of cancer”
Of course the article discusses the potential for drugs to target bacteria, but the point for me is that the more that medical science substantiates the link between gut flora and disease, the closer the SCD comes to your local doctor’s toolkit.
See the article in the July 2008 issue here.
Thanks to londonderrylaura on the scd_newengland group for alerting us to this interesting read.
thank you for your comments. This has seriously lit a fire in me. And I’d like to share something with you. Blogspot is a second home. I’m still getting used to it. But I write a diary in another place called Open Diary. http://www.opendiary.com/someone to be exact. This experience has led me to want to do more than change our personal lives. So thank you for that link. I’m very interested.
Thanks again,
Maureen
