An SCD sympathetic Dr. perhaps?

I ran across a news article with the intriguing title “Managing Crohn’s Disease through a special diet“. It talks about a study out of Rush University in Chicago looking at the effects of diet and prebiotics. There’s a video too. The study sounds interesting, but what might be more interesting is the doctor.

There is a obvious similarity between this study and the SCD concerning the effect of bacterias on IBD. This study comes at it from the opposite direction however. Whereas the SCD aims to starve bacterias, this study aims to feed  bacterias. The prebiotics provide food for the bacterias and in this study take the form of fructooligosaccharide (FOS) and inulun.

Yeah, I know FOS and inulun are bad news on the SCD, but I’m not suggesting you sign yourself up for the study although it is apparently still recruiting participants. What did come to mind is that the doctor who is the principal investigator on the study is a gastroenterologist and I suspect she would be a doctor who would be sympathetic to a patient on the SCD.

So you can consider this post a public service. If you live in that neck of the woods and are looking for an SCD-friendly doctor maybe you want to talk to Dr. Mutlu. Here’s her profile page including contact info on Rush’s site. Tell her Paul sent you – she’ll have no idea who you’re talking about.

Do me a favor though. If you do see Dr. Mutlu, let me know if she is indeed a good fit for an SCD patient. I’d like to share that info with the rest of the group.

Thanks.
